FDA Advisory No. 2016-073
Public Health Warning Against the Use and Consumption of the Unregistered Cem’s Honey Being Distributed or Sold in the Market
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises the public against the use and consumption of the following unregistered Cem’s honey being distributed or sold in the market:
The public is hereby warned that the abovementioned products are not registered with this Office. Furthermore, no Cem’s honey product is registered with this Office.
For public information, to be able to satisfy the standard term for “honey”, the product being sold must not have added to it any food ingredient, including food additives, nor shall any other additions be made other than honey (Codex Standard for Honey [Codex Stan 12-1981]). Further, the labels of all prepackaged food are required to declare the appropriate and true nature of food and must not bear any misleading, deceptive, and false claims in their labels that will provide erroneous impression on products’ character or identity. Hence, honey that has undergone cook treatment and with added ingredients or flavorings must not be labelled as “honey” defined by the Codex standard. Such claim will make the product misleading and deceitful.
In the interest of protecting public health and safety, the Officers of the Field Regulatory Operations Office (FROO) are hereby mandated to exercise their regulatory function pursuant to Section 14 of Republic Act No. 9711. Likewise, all local government units and law enforcement agencies are requested to ensure that these products are not sold or offered for sale in their localities or area of jurisdiction.
Dissemination of the information to all concerned is requested.
