GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT AWARENESS SEMINAR & LECTURE ON ALCOHOL & DRUG ABUSE

In order to mainstream Gender and Development into the Food and Drug Administration, FDA held a two day Seminar on “Gender and Development Awareness Seminar and Lecture on Drugs and Alcohol Abuse” last July 24-25, 2014 at Sunrise Holiday Mansion, Tagaytay City.

This year’s first GAD Activity was participated by (30) thirty male employees from different centers and offices. The objective is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the FDA employees on Gender and Development concepts and promoting gender equality.

The speakers of the Orientation seminar were Ms. Norma Escobido,FDA-GAD Consultant; Usec. Edgar Galvante, Permanent Board Member, Dangerous Drug Board; Atty. Cesar Posada, Legal Consultant DDB, Ms. Escobido discussed issues on gender sensitivity while the DDB Speakers lead by Usec. Galvante, talked about Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Due to the presence and rampant use of prohibited drugs, it was suggested that an FDA Anti Illegal Drugs policy be developed and disseminated to all employees. It was also suggested that drug testing be conducted unannounced on all FDA staff.

The training course was well appreciated by the participants as expressed in their impressions on said activity. They are thankful to the management for giving them the opportunity to undergo the said seminar. This transformed them to be a better person. They disclosed that they are now confident to discuss at least what gender is and how to relate with their colleagues and thus enhance their productivity in the workplace.
