The Food and Drug Administration Philippines (FDA) expresses its profound appreciation to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea through the World Health Organization (WHO) for their unwavering support in enhancing the capabilities of National Regulatory Authorities in the Western Pacific Region (WPR).
With a strong commitment to continuous pursuit to excellence, the FDA has received a generous donation of state-of-the-art laboratory refrigerators and dataloggers, which were officially presented on 14 August 2023 at the Food and Drug Administration, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The handover event was attended by FDA Director General Samuel A. Zacate, Common Services Laboratory Director Jocelyn E. Balderrama, and distinguished guests namely, Dr. Jinho Shin, Medical Officer of WHO-WPR, Mr. Juan Paolo Tonolete, Technical Officer of WHO-Country Office, and Dr. Taban Pasquale Khamis Dehia Consultant, EMT, WPRO.
The laboratory refrigerators will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity of health products, reference standards, and other laboratory supplies requiring cold storage conditions. Whereas, the dataloggers will provide real-time monitoring and data recording of laboratory environmental conditions. The donated equipment and instruments are additional tools that will further enhance the capacity of the FDA laboratory in generating valid and accurate results.
This contribution substantially extends beyond the current capacities of the FDA, as we anticipate utilizing the donated equipment to achieve Maturity Level 3 in the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool, and to bolster the Vaccine Testing Laboratory in the near future. The FDA is also taking proactive measures to ensure that it is fully equipped with necessary instruments to meet the evolving demands of the local and global healthcare landscape.
Empowered with these new resources, we have taken a significant leap in our laboratory prowess. We are exceptionally poised to uphold the highest echelons of accuracy and reliability in our testing protocols. This not only resonates within our organizational mission but also contributes to the broader aspiration of advancing worldwide health and safety.
