The 2023 National Convention of the Philippine Pharmacists Association (PPhA) Inc., with the theme “TransFORMational Pharmacy Practice for Sustainable Healthcare,” saw the active participation of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at SMX Convention Center Clark, Mabalacat City, Pampanga from May 24-26, 2023. During the convention’s opening, FDA Director General Dr. Samuel A. Zacate delivered a welcome message, highlighting the FDA’s ongoing and upcoming plans, including digitalization, reorganization, strengthening of post-marketing surveillance, and extending the validity of the License to Operate (LTO).
Engr. Ma. Cecilia C. Matienzo, Director IV of the Center for Device Regulation, Radiation Health and Research (CDRRHR), emphasized the importance of efficient regulatory processes and collaboration in the medical device industry during her reaction message. She underscored the need for sound policy, clear procedures, and collaboration to ensure the balance of access and quality of medical device products.
Dr. Irene V. Florentino-Fariñas, OIC-Director III of the Policy and Planning Service (PPS), highlighted the necessity of sustainability in pharmacy transformation and the role of policy formulation in governance during her participation in the convention. She stressed the importance of incorporating policy formulation into the curriculum to raise awareness among future pharmacists on public health pharmacy’s contributions to effective governance.
This collaboration between the FDA and PPhA demonstrates their joint commitment to regulatory compliance and providing safe, effective, and quality pharmaceutical healthcare products. By working together, the FDA and PPhA strive to advance pharmacy practice, promote public health, and contribute to the achievement of sustainable healthcare in the Philippines.
