The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) participated in the health forum conducted by the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) with the theme, “Streamlining and Digitalization of Government Processes in the Health Sector During and Beyond the Pandemic” last Monday, November 21 at Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.

The FDA, like other government agencies, has stringent requirements and internal processes. Since the enactment of Republic Act (RA) No. 11032, otherwise known as the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, which aims to streamline the current systems and procedures of government services, numerous initiatives and reforms have been undertaken by the FDA in order to deliver quality and efficient services to its clients and the public it protects. By streamlining processes through the utilization of the Internet and technology, the FDA became more accessible to stakeholders and people. With digitalization, not only can the government enhance its services, but it can also save money and improve the citizens’ quality of life.

The FDA is already on its process to improve the streamlining of the registration process, payment methods, and rigid regulatory conditions while maintaining a high regard for safety, environmental protection, and, most importantly, public health and welfare.

FDA Director General Samuel A. Zacate stated that he is working on a way to make the Information and Communication Technology Management Division (ICTMD) more systematic. In that way, the streamlining and digitalization of the registration process, payment methods, and rigid regulatory conditions will be more seamless. He further reiterated that he will always be in favor of initiatives that benefit citizens and industry stakeholders.

Recently DG Zacate has vowed, if not to totally eradicate red tape, he will, with earnest efforts, at least substantially minimize it under his watch.
