Muntinlupa City, 06 May 2024 – The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) led by Director General Dr. Samuel A. Zacate, in collaboration with distinguished representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), convened an exploratory meeting on May 6, 2024, to delve into the critical initiatives outlined within the Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+) Program.

The PQM+ program has been USAID’s intervention in helping regulatory authorities by strengthening local production of quality assured essential medicines in the country.

The meeting served as a platform for potential collaboration between the Philippine FDA and USAID, with a goal of further strengthening the agency’s regulatory system. This initiative will be an essential step for FDA’s pursuit to achieve the targeted WHO GBT Maturity Level. During the discussions, USAID identified the Philippines as a pivotal market with high potential for increasing local pharmaceutical production.

This international collaboration underscores FDA’s commitment to excellence in regulatory practices and harmonization with global standards, thereby fostering greater resilience in public health systems and ensuring universal access to high-quality medications.

The meeting is scheduled to continue until May 8, 2024, with a focused objective of identifying potential technical assistance that can be provided to FDA.
