Following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive during the Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) Health Sector Group Meeting ng at Malacañang Palace in February to expedite the procurement of veterinary vaccines, particularly in response to the threats posed by African Swine Fever (ASF) and Avian Influenza (AI) viruses, the Food and Drug Administration, under the leadership of FDA Director General Dr. Samuel A. Zacate and Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., convened a meeting today, 21 March 2024, at the Department of Agriculture Head Office in Quezon City.
The meeting discussed the possible vaccines for ASF and AI. Likewise, the dialogue tackled the enhancement of border control in coordination with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to prevent the entry of illegal food products that may endanger the general public and the industry.
