On 22 March 2024, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) led by Director General Dr. Samuel A. Zacate met with Secretary Frederick Go of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs (OSAPIEA) at the New Executive Building, Malacaňang Palace to discuss Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Ecozones (Pharma-Dev Zones).
Pharma-Medical Device Ecozone is a collaborative initiative by several Philippine authorities to accelerate medical manufacturing thus fostering economic growth and competition. It is likewise projected that the manufacture of common generic drugs will lead to increased overall local supply thereby reducing prices of drugs and medicines. The Pharma-Dev Zones will accommodate both local and foreign companies engaged in medical and drug manufacturing, including research and development and clinical testing and trials.
