The Ceremonial Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and the Professional Regulatory Board of Pharmacy (PRBOP) on 04 March 2024 at the PRC – Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) marks a significant milestone in regulatory collaboration within the healthcare sector in the Philippines.

Republic Act (RA) No. 9711, otherwise known as the “Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009,” mandates the FDA to regulate establishments engaged in the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, sale, offer for sale, transfer, promotion, advertisement, sponsorship, and testing of health products. On the other hand, RA No. 10918, otherwise known as the “Philippine Pharmacy Act” mandates the Professional Regulatory Board of Pharmacy to regulate the professional practice of duly licensed and registered pharmacists and other persons handling drug products.

The collaborative effort between the FDA, PRC, and PRBOP culminated in the signing of the MOA, aiming to strengthen the implementation of RA No. 10918, particularly on drug establishments and drug products. By formalizing this partnership, the agencies seek to improve and intensify coordination and communication thus ensuring continuous cooperation on policies, rules, and regulations relative to its implementation.
